My 23rd birthday....23? What an odd age. Its the beginning of "boring birthdays". There aren't any more good birthdays to look forward to now. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I will have many wonderful birthday celebrations in the future, but I have come to the end of the road of notoriously landmark ages.
The first of course is #16, what teenage girl doesn't want to be 16? Then 18, you're finally an "adult"! 21 takes forever, but it is the most talked about, waited for, and celebrated age there is. 22 was great too, for the first time I somehow felt more mature at the dawn of my new year. Now 23 is here and really thats all there is to say about it.
My birthday celebration, however, was great. Kristin flew over from Eugene, Oregon and Meeka and her boyfriend Shane drove down from Spokane. It is so touching when friends travel just to share in your birthday.
Kristin arrived first and went on a Christmas tree adventure with Erik and I
we found the perfect tree

While I decorated the tree and Kristin made hot apple cider (hmmm, where was Erik?) Meeka and Shane arrived. It was so nice hanging out with my two best girlfriends, just like old times.

Meeka made me a wonderful pineapple upside-down cake (its a tradition)
Later that night we went out to dinner at San Miguels with the whole gang. We then went to a couple bars for some drinks and dancing (can't go wrong with that) and came home.
Unfortunately, my guests had to leave early the next morning so Kristin could catch her flight. But, I can whole-heartedly say it was a great weekend and a surprisingly funfilled "boring birthday" celebration.

Oh, you just wait until you turn 30...or 35 (that's a landmark...you have to start checking the 35 to 50 box on forms)
I'm sure 40 will feel pretty landmark too...but then I wouldn't know...yet.
